the Marshmallows – a tribute to Warne Marsh & Lennie Tristano

THE MARSHMALLOWS
A tribute to Warne Marsh & Lennie Tristano — and to an alternative history of cool jazz.
The Marshmallows take a fresh look at the music of Warne Marsh and Lennie Tristano, imagining a parallel jazz history running alongside the bebop revolution of Charlie Parker.
This is cool jazz with a twist: new and adventurous melodies built on the harmonic forms of jazz standards, where familiar structures become the starting point for something unexpected. Alongside these newly crafted heads, the band also performs original compositions — and, for the occasion, a special Christmas surprise.
At the heart of the music is the interplay between five of Belgium’s finest jazz musicians:
Expect sophisticated lines, swinging rhythms, unexpected turns and plenty of room for improvisation — music rooted in the Tristano/Marsh tradition, but very much alive in the present.
The Marshmallows: cool jazz from a parallel universe.
