This film programme explores Taiwan New Cinema and its attention to everyday life amid the social and political transformations of the 1980s. Developed alongside Michael Lin’s exhibition Tea Towels and Serviettes, it brings personal and collective histories into dialogue with changing cities, rural environments, family relationships and ideas of home.
At Lin’s invitation, Taiwanese collective P.M.S.—Posak Jodian, Manman and Sophie Chen—adds a selection of documentaries and fiction films centred on perspectives often marginalised in cinema. Their programme connects intimate experiences with broader historical currents, focusing particularly on identity, gender and Indigeneity. Films are shown in their original languages with English subtitles.
